Future medical students take part in the WCCC HealthCare Camp

WCCC HealthCare CampStudents from Washington and Charlotte counties participated in a one-day healthcare camp offered by Washington County Community College (WCCC) and Calais Regional Hospital (CRH).  Students spent the morning at WCCC in the Medical Assisting lab taking vital signs, drawing blood and practicing injections on patient simulators.  In the afternoon, they participated in hands-on activities at CRH.  Students visited the laboratory, pharmacy, respiratory and radiology departments.

The camp was organized by Cindy Moholland, WCCC Medical Assisting Instructor.  Moholland said, “this was an opportunity for local students to be exposed to the different career opportunities in healthcare. Healthcare is an industry with rapid job growth and many people think of doctors and nurses when they think about healthcare careers, but there are dozens of different job opportunities in healthcare and today, these students got to learn a little more about them.”
