Washington County Community College Outdoor Holiday Adventure Camp

December 19, 2016
[Calais, ME] – The Outdoor Adventure Center at Washington County Community College is offering a Holiday Adventure Camp for kids grades 3 to 6 (ages 8 to 12) in Calais, ME. The day camp gives kids the opportunity to learn the basics of rock climbing on an indoor rock wall, explore Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge on snowshoes, work with others to complete team building activities, and have fun exploring the outdoors.

Christmas break is a perfect time for kids to get out of the house and try something new. “The winter season offers many activities and educational opportunities for kids to learn about their natural environment and discover how they can positively impact their surroundings.  Also, being in the outdoors is a great platform for teaching and can help kids learn how to face challenges together as a team,” comments program leader Chloe Wiebe, a recent graduate of WCCC’s Adventure Recreation and Tourism program.

The camp is intended for kids in grades 3 to 6, and will take place at WCCC’s Outdoor Adventure Center on December 27 to 30, from 9am to 3pm. Each camper is expected to bring a lunch and weather appropriate clothing for indoor and outdoor activities.  Cost is $65 per person.

The Outdoor Adventure Center is planning to offer more programs for kids in the New Year. “I find it really exciting that the Outdoor Adventure Center will be expanding its offerings to the local community.  Our new school vacation camps for kids is just the beginning of these new opportunities to explore the incredible outdoor resources our area has to offer.” Scott Fraser, OAC Director
