WCCC Golf Tournament Offers Big Prizes While Benefitting Students

June 23, 2017

If you’ve got an interest in a brand new vehicle-with the added bonus of supporting higher education-and a talented golf swing, make sure to participate in this year’s golf tournament at the St. Croix Country Club on Saturday, July 8th. Sponsored by Washington County Community College with the assistance of Pratt’s Chevrolet, participants in the tournament will be eligible to receive a 2017 vehicle in addition to a slew of other prizes and giveaways.

To win the vehicle, a golfer graced with luck and skill has to achieve a hole-in-one of 165 yards. Even if you don’t happen to get a hole-in-one, you won’t go away empty handed. Participants will receive gift cards and prizes for achieving the longest drive or closest to pin on hole 6, among other accomplishments.

The prizes are sponsored primarily by Pratt’s Chevrolet, a staunch supporter of WCCC. Ian Pratt, owner and operator of Pratt Chevrolet, said that he has hired many graduates from WCCC in the past and spoke on the importance of supporting the college in the community.

To participate in the tournament, which has three divisions and is a four-person scramble, the cost is $35 per person. Two shotgun starts will be held, at 7:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. EST.

The golf tournament is WCCC’s largest fundraising event of the year. Organizations from around both Washington and Charlotte Counties have contributed funds to be given away as scholarships to students from both sides of the border. As a result, more than $100,000 has been raised over the past fifteen years. Donors can create scholarships in their name or in the name of their organization and the scholarships can be assigned to students in a discipline of the donor’s choosing.

The annual list of donors continues to grow each year and includes: Anne Perry, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust of Lubec, Dr. Brian Hoops, DDS, Calais Ace Home Center, Calais Dunkin Donuts, Calais Motor Inn, Dr. & Mrs. William Cassidy, Dead River Company, Dr. Karen Delaney, PLLC, Downeast Credit Union, EBS Building Supply, Eastern Maine Electric Company, Farrell Family Scholarship, Federal Marine Terminal, International Motel, John Cassidy Family Scholarship, Ken & Jane Brooks, Joyce Maker, Dr. Joyce Hedlund, Mays Funeral Home, O’Brien’s Quality Auto Care Service, PCT Communications, Quoddy Pilots, Richard Mingo Construction, Riverside Electric, Roger’s Auto Sales, Tammi Smith Tax and Accounting, WCCC Student Senate, and WQDY Inc.
