Tech Prep & Advanced Standing
Tech Prep
Tech Prep offers an educational career pathway providing
an avenue for students to obtain a seamless technical education, beginning
at grade nine in high school, continuing through WCCC and beyond.
Through the Northern and Eastern Maine Tech Prep Consortium, WCCC works in
close partnership with area high schools, regional technical centers,
businesses, industries and communities to prepare students for success
in the workforce or the next higher level of learning.
A Tech Prep student at WCCC matriculating in as associate degree program
will have the following advantages:
- Students enrolled in Tech Prep articulated courses in
high schools that have formal Tech Prep articulation agreements with WCCC
have the opportunity to receive college credits based upon evaluation of
their achievement of predetermined competencies.
- Students may receive advanced standing in their
related program.
- Students will not be charged for credits earned
via articulation agreements.

Advanced Standing
WCCC has formal, written agreements with a growing list of
Maine high schools that award credit for coursework that has been reviewed
and approved by both high school and college faculty representatives.
Students who qualify for this opportunity must meet all admission requirements
for acceptance into a WCCC catalog program. Furthermore, qualified students
must successfully complete the equivalent of one full semester of coursework
before the Tech Prep transfer credit is posted on their transcripts. Each
agreement has specific conditions in terms of required competencies, credit
hours, and effective dates.
