Test Your Skills and Win a 2019 Vehicle at WCCC’s Golf Tournament

June 25, 2018

Every year, the rolling green hills of the St. Croix Country Club play host to Washington County Community College’s annual golf tournament, giving golfers from around the area the opportunity to compete with approximately 28 four-person teams. The tournament offers a host of prizes – including a loaded 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited for the lucky golfer that scores a hole in one.

Located next to the St. Croix River, the St. Croix Country Club has been a choice destination for golfers from around the state and beyond since it opened in 1927. For the past 17 years, WCCC has chosen the location for its golf tournament, combining the college’s demonstrable support of community businesses with its desire to provide financial support to students. The event draws the attention of golfers from throughout Washington and Charlotte counties both for its location and for the competition itself.

Every year WCCC organizes a Direct-to-Student fundraising drive in conjunction with the tournament, requesting donations for scholarships that are given directly to students. The proceeds from the tournament and the donations made by individuals and organizations within the community combine into the college’s largest fundraising event of the year. Donors can create scholarships in their own name, their business’s name, or in honor of another individual or organization. Donors can also choose which program(s) their scholarship is open to. The scholarships are disbursed every year during the college’s awards night ceremony.

Special thank you to all those that have already made a scholarship donation: Andel Construction Services, Anne Perry, Bell’s IGA, Calais Ace Homecenter, Calais Dunkin Donuts, Calais Motor Inn, Dr. Bill & Sue Cassidy, Joseph Cassidy, Dead River Company, Down East Credit Union in memory of long time Board of Directors member Jeff Gagner, Eastern Maine Electric Cooperative, EBS Building Supplies, Farrell Family, International Motel, Dr. Joyce & Wes Hedlund, Ken & Jane Brooks, May’s Funeral Home, PCT Communications, Quoddy Pilots USA, Richard Mingo Construction, Riverside Electric, Roger’s Auto Sales, Sunrise Eye Care, WCCC Student Senate, Tammi Smith Tax & Accounting, and WQDY.

WCCC’s quest to open the door to higher education for students is supported by Calais-based Pratt auto dealership, which now carries products from Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC. Every year, Pratt contributes not only the potential for the grand prize vehicle but a slew of other prizes for tournament participants, including golf-related gear, apparel, magazines, and even a trip.

This year’s tournament will be held on Saturday, July 14th. There will be two shotgun starts, one at 7:30 a.m. and one at 1 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). To compete in the four-person scramble, the fee is $35 per participant. Teams must have a total of 30 index per team, or over, with only 1 person with an 8 or under.
