Washington County Community College Powersports/Small Engine Technician program receives accreditation

In an effort to increase the number of power equipment technicians for the Outdoor Power Equipment industry, the Equipment & 
Engine Training Council has recently accredited Washington County Community College in Calais, Maine. This increases the number of accredited power equipment training programs to 78 throughout the US and Canada.
The training at Washington County Community College is designed to train students as professional entry-level outdoor power equipment and small engine technicians through a combination of theory and hands-on experience.
Graduating students receive a certificate from the Powersports /Small Engine Technician program and are also required to complete testing with Briggs & Stratton, Stihl, and other manufacturers. Students who perform at industry standards find many employment opportunities as service technicians, parts, sales, set-up, or rental personnel. Some even start their own businesses.
“We are very excited to become an accredited training program with the Equipment & Engine Training Council (EETC),” said Greg Johnson, Instructor. “Building a strong personal relationship with manufacturers and industry associations like Kohler, Briggs & Stratton, Stihl, Hydro-Gear, and EETC can only help our students become more successful when they graduate and move into their chosen profession of the power equipment industry”, Johnson said.
