Washington County Community College is pleased to announce that it has been selected to receive funding under the TRIO/Student Support Services program a 5 year grant for the amount of $244,677.00 per year (total $1,223,385). TRIO is a federally funded program that serves at risk students. To be eligible for the TRIO program a student must be first generation, low income, or have a documented disability. The TRIO program at WCCC is committed to developing independent learners while increasing student retention, transfer to a 4-yr institution or graduation. Because of the continued commitment of the staff and faculty at WCCC, the TRIO program will empower students to make positive life choices and adapt to a changing world that requires new responsibilities and skills. TRIO prepares students to become competitive members of a world-class workforce, successful achievers in pursuit of higher education and positive contributors to society. WCCC President Joe Cassidy notes, “Receipt of the TRIO/SSS grant is a clear indication that the federal government recognizes how important the work is that WCCC does to offer opportunity to students who have traditionally encountered barriers to higher education.”
