Expedition Backpacking Summer Camp

Course Description: This 5 day Expedition Backpacking Camp will provide campers with the knowledge and practical experience how to travel in a backcountry setting. The group will be led by at least one Registered Maine Guide and an assistant guide. The first three days of camp at WCCC will focus on these areas: team building, trip planning, strategies for packing a backpack, navigation, food preparation, fire and stove safety, and Leave No Trace Principles in a backcountry setting. The last two days of camp will allow these campers to put their knowledge into practice by backpacking through the Cuter Bold Coast by camping for one night on August 1st

July 29: 9a – 3p

  • ½ day team building at ropes course
  • ½ day orientation to gear and backpacking concepts

July 30: 9a – 3p

  • ½ day tent set up, stove set up and waste management
  • ½ day LNT and mini hike

July 31: 9a – 3p

  • ½ day team building at ropes course
  • ½ day navigation and geocaching

August 1: 9a

  • Meet at college – pack up
  • Run through checklists
  • Arrive at Cutler Bold Coast in college van
  • Hike a loop trail to our campsite with packs on
  • Set up camp
  • Dinner and get ready for bed

August 2: 7a

  • Wake up, breakfast
  • Pack up
  • Short morning hike along coast
  • Eat lunch
  • Hike out to van
  • Arrive back at college
  • Clean up gear and be ready to picked up at 3p
